Get Close Enought Without Changing the Distance
Today I would like to share one of my thoughts about photography which is essential for being a great photographer even though it’s a simple thing and certainly nothing new under the sun.
Ten minutes ago I was about to watch a film called War Photographer starring the awesome James Nachtwey. But right at the beginning I had to hit the PAUSE button. The famous quote by Robert Capa “If your pictures aren’t good enough, you’re not close enough.â€Â appeared in front of me and I started to write this post.
I have heard and read this quote a number of times like you probably have but now I’ve had a new “A-HA†moment. Usually when I was thinking about whatRobert Capa said, I thought it is the distance and composition he was talking about. But the more I think about it the more I am certain that he wasn’t talking just about filling the frame with the subject we are about to photograph. I am almost sure he meant to get close enough in terms of getting to know the subject and being able to express love and other feelings. Simply pouring our heart and soul into each frame, ergo being able to make a much stronger photograph withan impact on other people by giving the subject a voice.
Thank you for listening and now back to watching the film!

P.S. Have you had any a-ha moments recently? Feel free to share!
