Visual Acoustics – Documentary Film about Photography and Modernism

Recently I have discovered a wonderful film about modernism and architecture photography from 2008 so today I want to tell you about it. If you are a photographer or architecture enthusiast I recommend you to watch it, if you haven’t seen it already.

It is a documentary film called Visual Acoustics and it celebrates life and photography of Julius Shulman (one of the best architecture photographers) who took photographs for the best modernist architects of the 20th century such as Frank Lloyd Wright, John Lautner, Frank Gehry and Richard Neutra.

In my opinion this documentary is not great just for architecture photographers, architects and architecture enthusiasts, but for everyone interested in photography. Julius Shulman a wonderful photographer who loved modernism and photography. What really spoke to me though was when he sad, that the camera is the last element that comes into a photograph. I agree with him 100%. The click of the shutter is really the last thing which comes into making beautiful photographs. Although it is usually the only thing too many people are aware of.
